At a successful Needs Analysis planning day on May 2, 2014 at Mt. Surprise, Qld., participants from the rural communities came together to discuss the needed projects and missing resources throughout the land. There were many!
Since then, Australian Horizons Foundation conducts research and conferences in strategic regions, to stay at the forefront in identifying the most pressing needs, so that a broad range of initiatives are addressed.
The Foundation is engaging students, as part of their Master's Degrees, to undertake a Needs Analysis out in the field. This entails visiting small and large communities, cattle stations, farms, individuals, councils, associations as cattlemen, farming and fisheries, schools, politicians and businesses, to forensically examine all the short-falls that have caused the rural heart of Australia to be broken. And unearth the most pressing needs. Timescales, dollar amounts, quick and slow fixes and forecasts will be presented and eventually posted on this website.
More importantly, this will give the Foundation an even clearer picture that can be used in our strategic Planning, and also shared with the Commonwealth, State and Local governments and corporations, for grant considerations.
Presently, we are working towards the following:
Medical services, from dentistry to ophthalmology, are sparse and oftentimes non-existent in our rural communities. Here's the solution.
Imagine if your children could not attend school and could not receive any education whatsoever!
Imagine if there were no "tradies" in your town, plumbers, electricians, builders or mechanics. Here's what happens.
RECREATION AND SPORT
Australia's cities have a dearth of recreational and sporting facilities. In the country, it is the opposite!
Emergencies happen! And Aussies always step in to help. It's our nature! Australian Horizons Foundation invites you to help us do something even MORE special: ...
FUEL, FOOD AND FUN
Do you know many farms and stations cannot put food on their tables, or afford fuel for travel?
PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
The heart of the rural regions is agriculture, farming, fisheries and grazing. All are businesses ... and need management assistance.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES
Country kids are some of the smartest in the country. They grow up learning practical skills ... yet are restricted in gaining higher education due to costs and travel.
Total Funds Required
Total funds to raise for establishment of the above Projects in the first year: $19.9 million.
Note: A number of the projects above centre in Georgetown. This is because it is the central town in the Gulf region. And it makes sense to have the Medical Hub, High School and TAFE college there for that region, so ready access can be made from any direction.
However, this Foundation is conducting Needs Analysis in all the surrounding towns throughout 2016 and 2017, to undercover all the needs of rural Queensland and beyond.
We are now if full swing with fund-raising for each project, in the form of Art Unions, Corporate Sponsorships, Donations-upon-Checkout at hotels, Private Donations, VIP Events, Sporting Events and other means.
